Yet many less traditional savoury toppings and fillings remain popular, including chicken (15%), vegetables (12%), steak (9%), salsa and guacamole (9%) and even curry (6%).

Jamie Robinson, Tesco Executive Chef, suggests trying a cannelloni – or crêpe style – pancake for something different. He said: "Pretty much anything works, but one of my go-to recipes is grilled chicken, mozzarella, and sun-blushed tomato pesto all rolled in a crêpe, topped with more mozzarella and baked until golden brown."

For a grown-up pancake, add a little drop of orange liqueur into the pancake batter. Tesco also suggests trying its recipes for Millionaire’s pancakes, extra sweet Birthday Cake pancakes. - and even savoury Hot Dog pancakes with caramelised onions and drizzled with mustard and ketchup.
