Tony Watt set for St Mirren transfer as Dundee United green light Stephen Robinson loan reunion

Tony Watt is set to seal a loan move to St Mirren with Stephen Robinson's side seeing off interest from across Europe to take the Dundee United striker on loan for the remainder of the season.

KV Oostende, several English and another Scottish Premiership club have also made moves today but Robinson has managed to convince Watt to reunite with his former Motherwell boss in Paisley. St Mirren had an initial loan offer turned down but the board have gone back in with an improved bid to land the 29-year-old after Robinson identified Watt as his top target.

St Mirren are now in the top six and hope that Watt's signing can help push them into the European mix. Robinson's previous relationship with Watt at Fir Park was another major factor in the striker's decision to choose St Mirren. The Buddies were keen to add to their frontline before the end of deadline day to add competition up front.

Robinson had loaned Eamonn Brophy to Ross County but has been left short after Jonah Ayung suffered an injury at the weekend. This is likely to keep him out long term.
