Tony Watt completes St Mirren switch as striker joins on loan

St Mirren have completed the signing of Tony Watt.

The striker has joined the Buddies on loan from Dundee United until the end of the season.

Stephen Robinson has reunited with the former Celtic, St Johnstone and Motherwell forward in Paisley having previously managed the player.

He has been drafted in to bolster the club's attacking options for the remainder of the campaign as St Mirren aim to secure a top six finish.

Watt said: "I'm buzzing. I'm delighted to be here and now it's time to get to work.

"I know the manager and I've played with a lot of the boys so hopefully it'll be a seamless transition.

"I want to win games and adapt to the team. The manager wants me to play through the middle and score goals and that's what he believes I can do.

"I'm ready and raring to go and hopefully I can be involved in the next few days."

He is the club's second deadline day signing. Earlier this evening, St Mirren confirmed the capture of Thierry Small.

The left-back has been signed on loan from Southampton.

Meanwhile, Kyle Lafferty has terminated his contract at Kilmarnock.

The Northern Ireland international has departed the Rugby Park club on deadline day by mutual consent.

A club statement has confirmed that the 35-year-old has left the Ayrshire side with immediate effect.

It reads: "It’s with regret that Kyle Lafferty and Kilmarnock Football Club have parted company by mutual consent. We thank Kyle for his service to the club."

Derek McInnes is now working hard on bringing in another striker before tonight's January window deadline. The window shuts at midnight.

It's believed the club are still working on doing business in the remaining hours.
