Tony Mowbray's Ian Poveda hope after Blackburn Rovers make contact with Leeds United

Tony Mowbray has confirmed that Blackburn Rovers have been in contact with Leeds United over Ian Poveda. The winger has been out of action since November after sustaining a serious ankle injury.

He was forced to have surgery on his ankle and is fighting to return to full fitness before the end of the season. Having started the campaign well, the injury came at an awful time for Poveda, who had registered one goal and three assists in eight Championship appearances.

However, Mowbray is still hoping to get Poveda back before the final day of the campaign. Blackburn are still pushing for a play-off place and may need Poveda back to give them a final push.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We’re in touch with Leeds about Poveda who is back on the grass doing light stuff with them. He’s not ready to play football yet.

"I know we are still paying a part of his salary. If he comes back that will be good.

"If he doesn’t because he’s not going to get match fit, I hope he gets himself fit and well. If Ian comes back, we will be happy to see him.

"He’s a nice kid, he works hard and brings a bit of quality. So if he does come back, that will be good."
