Tony Macaroni hammer blow as popular restaurant shuts down suddenly

An Ayrshire restaurant has closed its doors for good.

Tony Macaroni in Irvine shut down on Saturday with bosses issuing an apology to customers.

A sign in the window states staff from the Rivergate Retail Park venue will be moving to firm's Kilmarnock outlet, which opened last October.

The sign reads: "Dear loyal TM Irvine guests. We're sorry to inform you that this site will be closed for the foreseeable future.

"The staff will be joining our already incredible team over at Tony Macaroni, Kilmarnock so please visit us there for the same great food and experiences you have enjoyed here.

"We would like to thank you for both your custom, and memories during our time here."

The pizza and pasta chain took over the Irvine unit after Frankie and Benny's left the town in April 2019.

The Scots chain opened in Irvine in December 2019, complete with a take-away menu too.

The news means Kilmarnock and Largs are the last remaining Ayrshire venues under the Tony Macaroni brand.

However, the firm has around 20 restaurants throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland.
