Tommy Fury tipped to be third-highest paid boxer behind Tyson and Anthony Joshua

Tommy Fury has been backed by former world champion Carl Frampton to become one of the UK's highest-paid boxers ever behind Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Frampton, who had to fight 31 times as a professional to make significant money, believes Fury, along with YouTube star KSI, is likely to finish his career as a huge earner, overtaking world champions despite his limited ability. The Northern Irish fighter sold out stadiums and fought eight times for world titles.

However, in his early career he could have only dreamed of making the $2.5million that Fury has been offered for a fight with Jake Paul in Saudi Arabia next month. The Manchester native, who rose to fame through a run on Love Island in 2019, is only 23-years-old and 8-0 as a professional, but could stand to make the huge sum in his first pay-per-view headliner.

"Bar Tyson Fury and AJ, KSI and Tommy Fury will almost certainly leave boxing having made significantly more money than any other active UK fighter," Frampton wrote in a tweet yesterday, accompanied by emojis showing someone's mind blown as well as a man shrugging.

The fighter has previously come under fire for suggesting that Fury, who has been around his famed boxing family for most of his young life, would lose to Jake Paul if the pair were to fight. They have twice scheduled to compete, but the Brit pulled out of both; first due to injury and second as a result of a travel issue.

Tommy's dad John was filmed squaring up to Frampton at a press conference for Tyson's world title defence against Dillian Whyte last year, complaining that the boxer had picked Paul in a prospective match-up between the pair. At the time, Tommy had pulled out of just one bout with the American, and likely would have been the bookies' favourite had they fought that summer.

"Why do you think he could beat Tommy?" John Fury could be heard asking Frampton. "Answer the question now because I've looked up to you and I've supported you." When Frampton responded that he was just being "honest", Fury seemed indignant and declared that he no longer wanted to speak to him.

However, there appears to be a legitimate discussion to be had about just how well Tommy will perform against Paul if the pair are to meet in the Middle East next month. He faced journeymen until last April when he struggled over eight rounds to get rid of the 11-1 Daniel Bocianski, who looked considerably less of a challenge than his record would suggest.

And he has now twice pulled out of fighting the YouTuber, with even the announcement of what would be their third meeting seemingly taking until the last minute to announce. Paul has, in just three years as a boxer, defeated former UFC champions Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva, although many critics note that he has yet to face a legitimate boxer.
