Tommy DeCarlo, the frontman of rock band Boston, has died aged 60.
The vocalist was diagnosed with brain cancer in September, his family said in a Facebook post announcing his death Monday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026,” said the statement shared by DeCarlo’s wife, Annie, and their two children, Talia and Tommy Jr.
“After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end,” the family said. “During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.”
DeCarlo joined Boston, a band known for hit songs like “More Than a Feeling” and “Peace of Mind,” in 2007 after the group’s original lead singer, Brad Delp, died by suicide.
DeCarlo, a longtime Boston fan, toured with the band for nearly two decades and performed the band’s hit songs.
In September, DeCarlo’s family launched a GoFundMe page to pay for the rockstar’s medical bills after he “suffered a sudden brain bleed and underwent an emergency craniotomy,” the fundraiser said.
“During surgery, doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lungs,” the family explained. “He amazed us by recovering from the surgery and beginning treatment, but before he could complete it, he had another brain bleed and was hospitalized from November 27th to December 27th. Since then he has completed acute inpatient therapy and is currently back on track with treatments from his oncology team.”
The statement continued, “We’ve created a GoFundMe to help support his needs and the challenges ahead. He is deeply grateful for the love, prayers, and support he’s already received from friends, family, and fans all over the world. It has lifted him up during the hardest moments and reminded him he’s not fighting alone.”
His family gave an update on the fundraiser January 2 saying that DeCarlo was able to come home from the hospital the day after Christmas, calling the singer “strong, determined, and a true fighter.” At the time of writing, the fundraiser had received more than $56,000 of its $50,000 goal.
While the band has not shared an official statement regarding the loss, Boston’s website was updated with a picture commemorating DeCarlo performing onstage, with his birth and death dates written beside the photo.
