Tom Parker said that a "priest predicted he'd end up jailed or working as a footballer".
The Wanted singer Tom tragically died aged just 33 in March, 18 months after he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
From an excerpt of his unreleased memoir that will come out later this month, The Sun published an article yesterday (May 15), where Tom lifted the lid on what he was like growing up before finding fan in the hit-making boyband.
Touching upon his school life he explained that he didn't have the personality for formal education and was "more into practical things".
When he left Primary School, the priest told him and his parents: "Tom is a nice young lad. He’s either going to be a footballer, or he’s going to end up in Strangeways prison."
Tom noted this was a joke, but this led to him believing the low expectations placed on him by other people.
He added: "I just didn’t fit into society’s idea of what a good kid was."
Although school was a tough feat for him, he did progress onto university and studied geography at Manchester Met, but he only lasted six months before he "f***ed it off".
It was then that his weed habit "started to become a problem" and his parents would confront him about it.
He detailed how it progressed from a social thing to a "full-on addiction" and how he would do "pretty much anything to get high".
Writing in his article he then explained how he ended up taking things from his parents home and pawning them for money so that he could buy more weed.
After stealing money from his mum's birthday card his parents kicked him out and he ended up sofa surfing for some time.
He ended up competing in a singing competition and won a grand, which he used to grow weed.
But everything changed in 2008 when he stumbled across an advert for a site called Jayne Collins Casting – the company that formed The Saturdays.
With more than 1,000 trying out for the band, Tom was determined to get in the band and asked his mum for some money to get to London for an audition.
His mum refused to give him the money because of what she thought he would do with is, so instead he bought a £1 bus ticket and made the trip.
After the final audition, the rest was history and Tom was part of The Wanted.
Proving to his mum that he'd turned his life around, he handed her their first single and Tom's life had changed for the better.
