Tom Lawrence 'wanted' by new club of former Rangers boss

Tom Lawrence has become the second Rangers player to be linked with a move to the new team of his former manager.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst last week took up the vacant post at Besiktas.

The Dutchman has signed a two-year deal with the Turkish giants, with an option available to extend until the summer of 2027.

Yesterday reports in Turkey suggested that the 49-year-old has made it apparent to club chiefs that he wants to sign James Tavernier - who he of course worked with as Ibrox.

Now, the Daily Mail states he's set for another look at his old Scottish Premiership outfit, with Lawrence another player he's considering a move for.

Van Bronckhorst signed Lawrence for Rangers two years ago upon his release from Derby County.

The 30-year-old has just one year left on his current contract. He made 32 appearances last season after getting over the worst of his injury issues.

It remains to be seen whether he will play a part in Philippe Clement's plans moving forward, with the Belgian already well underway in his rebuild of the first-team squad.

Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Jon McLaughlin have all been allowed to leave so far.

Oscar Cortes and Jefte have arrived, with Mohamed Diomande's loan set to be turned into a permanent deal too.

The report states Ipswich Town are also keen to sign Lawrence this summer.

The Tractor Boys will be preparing for their assault on the Premier League when they return for pre-season training next month.

Head coach Kieran McKenna is looking to add some much-needed experience to his ranks as they look to survive at the first time of asking.

Sheffield United - now back in the English Championship - have also been credited with an interest.
