TOM LAWRENCE has lifted the lid on the chat he has with Wayne Rooney prior to his Rangers transfer.
The Welshman signed on the dotted line at Ibrox earlier in the window after leaving Derby at the end of last season.
He worked under Rooney during his time there and they formed a close relationship.
The now DC United manager was in touch with the attacker after Lawrence sealed his move north of the border.
Lawrence told Sky Sports: "Look around now, it speaks for itself. It's a great club and they win things every year.
“That's why I want to come here at my age - obviously I want to play in Europe as well.
“It's a big step for me. I had chats with family and things like that.
"It's a big move coming here but one I'm looking forward to.
"I did speak to (Wayne) a little bit. Obviously he's happy for me, we had a great relationship on and off the pitch last year. It was all good.”
