Tom Hanks' son Chet Hanks - family 'black sheep', drug binges and hotel room smash

Tom Hanks has a reputation as one of the good guys of Hollywood, a stand-up character adored and trusted by millions.

His son Chet Hanks, 31, cuts a slightly different figure; one a little more controversial than Tom’s on-screen nice guy and off-screen family man persona.

Chet has enjoyed his own success in the acting world, having secured recurring roles in hit series like Empire and Shameless.

But away from the camera, Chet embodies a very different personality from his 65-year-old dad, one with a few more controversies than the new “America’s Dad”.

Despite the differences, he has publicly insisted on how much he appreciates his parents.

“I love my parents so, so much,” Chet said. “They did a really, really good job raising me. Good dad, good mom, period. Great dad, great mom. I'm extremely blessed just to have great parents”

However, on his booking agent’s website, he is described as “the self-confessed black sheep of his family” - but what has he done that has made him so different to dad?

When Chet Hanks was wanted by UK police

While in the UK in 2015, Chet Hanks was wanted by British police after causing £1,200 worth of damage to a hotel room.

Hanks, who also has Greek citizenship, has been staying in the Arora International Hotel, but after he left the room was found with the TV ripped off the wall and glass smashed all over the place.

The Blake actor is understood to have been drinking champagne in the VIP area of a nightclub. A source said: "He was pretty obnoxious once he started drinking at the club. He kept saying, 'do you know who I am?'"

Sussex Police said in a statement: "A guest has caused an estimated £1,200 of damage to a hotel room.

"We have been given the name of the suspect, a 24-year-old man from the USA.

"We are working with other agencies to try to trace him so he can be interviewed."

Chet Hanks also goes by the name of Chet Haze when performing as a rapper. A white man, Haze used the N-wor d on social media, causing outrage.

Now an outspoken supporter of Black Lives Matter movement, Hanks has told The Red Pill Podcast with Van Lathan that he “was on a lot of drugs” when he used it frequently, as well as when he tried to defend it on an Instagram post, which he has now deleted.

He added: “I wanted to be, like, down, you know what I mean? I just felt like I wasn't enough.”

Chet Hanks’ drug addiction and rehab

It has been well documented that Chet Hanks has previously battled drug addiction.

When he retracted his comments about his right to use the N-word, Hanks admitted he had been taking a lot of drugs, before checking himself into rehab.

Chet’s dad, Tom, said he supported his son “every step of the way”.

Hanks got clean in 2015 and now credits his sobriety to his daughter Michaiah, who he shares with Tiffany Miles.

Chet Hanks’ anti-vax rant

Despite initially saying he was vaccinated, Chet Hanks went on a rant during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a clip charred on his Instagram, Hanks initially sounded like a supporter of the vaccine, before the piece to camera took an unexpected turn.

He said: “Look, I’ve been kinda on the fence about this for a while, that’s why I’ve never spoke on it.

“But with the amount of people that I know recently that have gotten Covid and with, like, the numbers rising, I think it’s important for me to say, like, I got the vaccine. I think everybody should. I think it’s really important that we all do this just as, like, citizens [and] as Americans. We have to look out for each other.”

Then the tone changed dramatically.

“Sike, b***h!” he said. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I ain’t never had Covid. You ain’t stickin’ me with that motherf**kin’ needle. It’s the motherf**kin’ flu. Get over it, okay? If you’re sick, stay inside. Why we working around y’all? If you’re in danger, stay your ass inside. I’m tired of wearing a motherf**kin’ mask.”

Tom Hanks was one of the earliest high profile cases of Covid-19 in a celebrity.
