Tom Cruise 's attendance at the King's Coronation on May 6th has been confirmed, with the Hollywood actor joining the likes of Katy Perry and Winnie The Pooh on the royal guestlist.
On the day after the official ceremony, the 60-year old is set to appear in "a series of pre-recorded sketches and segments revealing little-known facts about The King," during the Coronation concert on May 7th, according to the BBC.
As Tom joins legends like Lionel Richie and David and Victoria Beckham on the star-studded guestlist for the event, some fans have been wondering how the Top Gun actor is tied to the royal family, but his links with the Windsors goes way back.
When he was dating Nicole Kidman in the late 90s, he met the late Princess Diana and went on to become "chums" with the former Princess of Wales. He was said to be devastated upon hearing of her death following a tragic car accident in 1997.
"She was a magical person and really engulfed you with her personality," Tom told Fox News. He and Nicole were among the celebrity friends at Diana's funeral.
More recently, Tom was tied to the late Queen Elizabeth the Second and reportedly spent a summer bonding with the monarch before she sadly passed aged 96.
A source told the Sunday Times that the pair "really hit it off" after having tea together and setting up a second meeting.
"Just the two of them had tea together," the source revealed. "She loved seeing him and they really hit it off, so much so that she invited him back for lunch. He was even allowed to fly in by helicopter."
During a segment at the Queen Platinum Jubilee, Tom said of the Queen: "I was just very honoured. She's a woman I greatly admire. She has tremendous dignity and I admire her devotion. What she has accomplished has been historic."
While promoting the second installment of the Top Gun movie saga, Top Gun Maverick, which released in cinemas last year, Tom felt inspired by Prince William, who is a trained search and rescue pilot, and said that the pair "have a lot in common."
Tom even let Will and Kate watch a private screening of the movie. Speaking about Will, he said: "We both love England, and we're both aviators, we both love flying."
