It’s official this time; Tom Brady has retired. While that technically isn’t news that is related to the Raiders, it certainly is notable. Over the last few weeks, the rumblings about Brady joining the Raiders have grown louder. But what does the team do now without Brady as an option?
There are only so many veteran quarterbacks expected to be available this off-season. The most notable name could be Aaron Rodgers, but that would mean the Raiders would have to give up draft assets to acquire him.
There are also a handful of interesting free agents set to hit the market, including Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, and Sam Darnold. Are any of those quarterbacks an upgrade over Derek Carr?
And that’s the next issue for the Raiders. They still need to trade Carr soon before his contract becomes guaranteed for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Could the Buccaneers be an option now that Brady has retired?
No matter what happens now, we know that Brady won’t be the next quarterback of the Las Vegas Raiders. And that’s probably not a bad thing as Josh McDaniels needs to find a long-term solution instead of a stop-gap option.
