Tom Brady pokes fun at himself for creating 'Twitter meme' as NFL icon hits milestone

Tom Brady did his best Rob Gronkowski impression as he spiked a tablet to the ground in frustration during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday - and then took to social media to poke fun at himself.

The Bucs quarterback was visibly frustrated as the offence struggled for much of the game. Brady threw an incomplete pass before tossing his helmet onto the field and furiously marching to the sidelines.

When greeted with a Microsoft Surface tablet, Brady aggressively threw it to the ground in anger. The Bucs struggled through large portions of the contest but came away 20-10 winners at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to secure his first regular season win over New Orleans since joining the Bucs in 2019.

This isn’t the first time a tablet has caught the ire of Brady against the Saints. Back in December 2021, the Saints secured a 9-0 win over their NFC South rivals and a frustrated Brady smashed a tablet before adding he could get fined by the NFL should he do it again.

This time around, Brady once again joked and poked fun at his tablet destroying ways. The 45-year-old took to Twitter with a post-game video - simply captioned ‘W’ with a salute emoji - and suggested he is set to become a Twitter meme once more.

“Great win to get to 2-0!” Brady said in the video. “Shoutout to the [defence] coming up huge again. Ugly ones count too - and sorry for breaking that tablet! I think that’s going to be another Twitter meme or something like that. Flying home to Tampa, ready for next week. Green Bay coming to town - Let’s go!”

Do you think Tom Brady will win another Super Bowl title before he retires? Let us know in the comments section.

Last year, he threw the tablet so hard against the bench that it bounced and was completely destroyed. After watching Brady slam another tablet on Sunday, Microsoft Surface chief Panos Panay responded to the incident on his Instagram story, writing: “Rest assured the Surface should be just fine.”

The Surface tablet - which sponsors the NFL - has become a victim for players and coaches alike amid matches since they were introduced in 2014. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was one of the first headline players to get seen throwing the tablet, while Brady’s former coach Bill Belichick smashed it one the sidelines during a New England Patriots clash.

The NFL’s website claims Microsoft designed the Surface tablets specifically for football matches and claim they can ‘stand up to the occasional drop’. Unfortunately, they didn’t account for the throwing power of the GOAT.
