Tom Brady Is Now The Minority Owner of Another Pro Sports Team

Tom Brady is still putting in work in sports despite announcing his second retirement earlier this year.

The seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback is now a part owner of Birmingham City FC, a second division English soccer team, the club announced on August 3. Brady entered the ownership group through his partnership with Knighthead Capital Management LLC, which is partnered with hedge fund manager Tom Wagner.

Knighthead Capital acquired over 45% stake of Birmingham City FC in July.

Brady will also take on the position of Chairman of the team’s Advisory Board.

In a video posted on the team’s social media pages, Brady admitted that he’s “got a lot to learn” about English football. But he hopes to bring the underdog mentality that made him one of the most successful athletes in all of sports to his new role.

“I do know some things about winning, and I think they might translate pretty well,” Brady said.

Brady is the latest in a line of notable Americans who have invested in European football clubs. Most notably are Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney who purchased Wrexham AFC in late 2020 and steered the team to league promotion earlier this year.

More Sports Business:

While Brady will be taking on a key leadership role with Birmingham City FC, it’s not the NFL legend's first foray into team ownership. Last year, Brady purchased a Major League Pickleball team.

He’s also invested in sports in other ways, like through his production company 199 Productions, which has developed films and documentaries like “80 for Brady.”
