Tom Brady has enjoyed the kind of career which the vast majority of other American football players throughout history could only dream of – but it was very close to never happening in the first place.
The legendary quarterback announced his retirement on Tuesday, bringing to a close a stellar 22-year career in the NFL which yielded seven Super Bowl rings and dozens of records.
But he very nearly didn't pursue a football career in his youth, having come close to plying his trade in baseball instead.
