Tom Blyth & Sophie Wilde Cast as Leads in Upcoming Watch Dogs Movie

New Regency has announced that Tom Blyth and Sophie Wilde have been cast in the upcoming Watch Dogs movie adaptation. The film is set to feature an original story that's set in the Watch Dogs universe with production scheduled to begin later this summer.

The two are going to be the lead in the movie. Tom Blyth is known for his role as Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Sophie Wilde meanwhile is known for films Talk to Me and TV shows Everything Now and Eden.

Set to direct the Watch Dogs movie is French genre director Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark). The screenplay is courtesy of Christie LeBlanc (Oxygen) with revisions by Victoria Bata. Serving as producers are Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann from New Regency and Margaret Boykin of Ubisoft Film & Television.

General Gameplay

The Watch Dogs franchise has three games to date. The core gameplay of the series is composed of driving, shooting, and even stealth segments. There are even elements of puzzle and role-playing. In terms of setting, they're fictionalized versions of real-life cities that are at various points in time. The protagonists are hackers who have different goals and eventually find themselves becoming involved with the criminal underworld. Meanwhile, the antagonists are typically corrupt companies, crime bosses, and rival hackers taking advantage of the central Operation System or ctOS.

The Three Titles

The first was Watch Dogs released in 2014. It's set in a fictionalized version of the Chicago metropolitan area in 2013. The story followed the follows gray hat hacker and vigilante Aiden Pearce who's on a quest for revenge after the killing of his niece.

Watch Dogs 2 meanwhile was released in 2016. This time it's set in a fictionalized version of the San Francisco Bay. The story now shifts to a hacker named Marcus Holloway. He's being punished for a crime that he didn't commit through ctOS 2.0. As a result, he joins the hacking group known as DedSec and hopes to increase social awareness when it comes to the dangers being posed by ctOS 2.0. He also hopes to expose the corruption of its creators, which is the Blume company.

The third is Watch Dogs: Legion, which came out in 2020. This time players are taken to the other side of the world which is a fictionalized representation of a futuristic and dystopian London. The story now focuses on the local branch of DedSec as they seek to clear their names after being framed for a series of terrorist bombings.
