Tokyo World performer, SL, apologises for throwing mic at crowd

London-based rapper SL, who appeared at last weekend’s Tokyo World in Bristol, has apologised after launching his microphone into the crowd and storming off stage. The artist, who was performing on the Labrinth Stage on Sunday (Sept 18), said he reacted badly when a beer bottle was thrown at his head.

The artist, best known for his hit Tropical, returned to the stage swiftly after the incident with a new microphone and finished the set. However, it hasn't stopped footage of him going being shared online and heavily circulated on Tik Tok.

Instagram-based news outlet The Shade Borough picked up the TikTok video to be reposted onto its official page. This prompted further reaction by an array of users online who shared their own takes on the incident.

Yesterday (September 20), SL released a statement on his Instagram Story to address Sunday’s altercation, by explaining that he ‘reacted out of character’ and added there were ‘no excuses’ to his actions.

He wrote: “Yo gang, quick one from me on the incident that happened at Tokyo World Festival. Whilst I was doing what I love, performing to the fans someone from the crowd threw a full pint of beer at me. I reacted out of character and I want to apologise to the lit crowd that came to see me perform. After the incident happened I walked off stage to get another mic & continued my set. There are no excuses to my actions I can only learn from this & do better next time. Love for the love. S”

One commenter wrote: “Good fans want to behave ruthless at times”, while another added: “I don't get this because why are you throwing bottles at someone you paid to see”.

A third user chimed in by writing: “Tbf any artist should walk off if anything gets thrown at them & the fans in the crowd should have singled out who did so.”

SL, real name Harlee Bashir Laguda Milne, found success at age 17, five years prior after the release of his breakout single Gentleman . This was followed by the extremely catchy Tropical- which shot him to internet fame.

Formerly known as Slimz, the rapper is most associated with famously obscuring his identity by sporting a ski mask in public. SL’s latest single, Berlin, was released on September 1 and has already surpassed a million views on YouTube.
