Following Maharashtra, FLiRT variants have now been detected in West Bengal. Thirty-six samples have tested positive for the new COVID-19 variant KP.2, which belongs to the FLiRT variant group. Health officials reported to the media that KP.2 is replacing the JN.1 variant and is present in approximately 50% of the sequenced samples. These samples were analyzed at the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics in Kalyani.
