A two-year-old girl has died from critical injuries after a car hit a tree near Halls Gap in western Victoria.

Emergency services found the girl and a female driver injured after being called to Grampians Road just before 9am on Thursday.

It is understood the vehicle crashed into a tree.

Both the toddler and a 22-year-old woman were airlifted to hospital on Thursday with serious injuries.

The toddler died of her injuries on Friday, police said.

The woman remains in hospital and police continue to investigate the crash.

Sixty-four people have now died on Victoria's roads so far this year, compared to 48 at the same time last year.
