Todd Boehly has been warned that Moises Caicedo could fail to meet expectations if Chelsea were to sign the midfielder. The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues following the appointment of his former boss Graham Potter.
The Chelsea boss handed the youngster his breakthrough in Europe, joining the Seagulls from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for just £4.5million in February 2021. Caicedo featured 16 times for Potter on the south coast, directly contributing towards four goals - one of which was a spectacular effort against Manchester United at the end of last season.
His impressive displays for club and country have reportedly attracted the interest of Chelsea and Real Madrid, with Brighton giving him an eye-watering £68million price tag. Potter will be hoping that his relationship will be enough to attract the Ecuadorian to Stamford Bridge, with the Blues in the market for a midfielder.

However, potential suitors have been warned by Jose Enrique that signing Caicedo for an eye-watering fee is not worth the risk - especially after how Marc Cucurella has managed at Chelsea after leaving Brighton in a deal worth up to £62million. Speaking to FairBettingSites, the former Liverpool defender said: "The problem Liverpool have, in my opinion, is that they need a few midfielders and not just one.
"If you asked me for just one, I would say let’s go all the way for Jude Bellingham in the summer. It’s unrealistic, I hope I am wrong, but I think it is unrealistic.
"Moises Caicedo? I think this type of player is unrealistic and you cannot go and spend £100 million or something like that. Because isn’t that what Brighton are going to ask for?
"I would not risk it, I think there are other players out there," added Enrique before crediting former Arsenal youngster and AC Milan star Ismael Bennacer as a better alternative. "Another player who was linked was [Ismael] Bennacer from Milan as well, who is playing for the champions of Serie A.
"He’s never played in the Premier League, but he has played at a very high level. Look at what is happening with [Marc] Cucurella at Chelsea at the moment. That’s what happens when you sign players from smaller teams, even if they play in the Premier League.
"It is not the same to play for a smaller team as it is to play for one of the biggest teams."
If Chelsea do wish to sign Caicedo, the midfielder has already admitted that he's keen on a move. Speaking to Ole earlier this season, as quoted by the Evening Standard, the Brighton star said: "It made me very sad now that he left for Chelsea because he helped me a lot and I wanted to continue having him as a manager, but that’s football.
"Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.
"I think they are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there."
