Todd Boehly told £51m Serie A star could be Chelsea's own Paul Pogba amid Lazio player swap talk

Chelsea transfer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has already drawn comparisons to Paul Pogba. The Blues have numerous issues to sort out this summer including in defence, midfield and attack. It is understood that if any Chelsea midfielders were to depart this summer, it would be Jorginho who is angling for a move back to Serie A.

Chelsea's No. 5 has been heavily linked to Juventus, who themselves need to shift out Adrien Rabiot this summer in order to complete the double swoop of Jorginho and Pogba this summer. The former Manchester United man, who left as a free agent recently and has been in the press predominantly for his controversial comments against the Red Devils in his new documentary, was tenuously linked to potentially making a move to Stamford Bridge to reunite with Les Bleus compatriot N'Golo Kanté for next season.

Manchester City were arguably the most likely Premier League team to sign the 29-year-old were he to remain in England but his will to return to Italy meant this wasn't possible and as a result, Leeds' Kalvin Phillips is on their radar.

In contrast, the current World Champions' midfield situation is rather complicated. Aurelien Tchouameni has already completed his £68million move to Real Madrid this summer, whilst West Ham's gigantic £150m Declan Rice valuation has deterred Todd Boehly to this point.

Therefore, other options from abroad need to still be considered and that's where Lazio's Milinkovic-Savic comes into the equation. Despite Maurizio Sarri's clear admiration of the Serbian international, it is understood that the former Blues manager could sacrifice the 27-year-old in a potential swap deal for either or both of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Emerson Palmieri. That's according to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, who add that the Serie A outlet value the Jose Mourinho favourite at around £51m, almost £20m cheaper than Tchouameni and £100m less than what would be required to sign Rice this summer.

There appears little doubt that Lazio's No. 21 has the quality to potentially succeed in the Premier League if he was to make the move in this aforementioned swap deal. What should also make this deal more enticing is the Pogba comparisons that have been made between the two midfielders. Whilst commenting on Erik ten Hag's interest in the 27-year-old, Italian football expert Conor Clancy said via Sportskeeda: "He's very similar to Pogba in that he can do everything that Pogba does. Maybe he's not as good as Pogba when both are at their best."

Amid all these rumours, Sport Witness have reported that a Friday meeting has been conducted between Lazio and Chelsea to talk about Milinkovic-Savic and the Blues players who Sarri wants in return.
