Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has called for Chelsea to be investigated for Financial Fair Play rules breaches - just like Manchester City. The Premier League released a statement earlier this month to confirm that the defending champions had been charged over breaches across nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18.
City were subject to an investigation which took four years to complete. For now, it remains to be seen whether any of the alleged breaches for the period aforementioned will be upheld by the commission or if any punishment will follow.
Pep Guardiola has protested the club's innocence claiming that they've already been "condemned". After Chelsea's total spend for the season eclipsed £600million following the arrival of Enzo Fernandez, questions have been raised over the validity of such activity.

Speaking to Genting Casino, the former Liverpool and Newcastle defender questioned how the Blues have been able to spend like they have without the ramifications which City could face. Enrique said: "Chelsea should also be looked into for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.
"Tell me how you spend £600million in six months for players and you haven’t breached any rules? I haven’t even taken into account their salaries over the years. Let’s say for example you spend £80million-£100million for a player.
"A club is allowed to stretch that through £20million over the course of 5 years, each year," the Spaniard added. "That's how Financial Fair Play works in England.
"But Chelsea have spent £600million on players these past couple of months. It is impossible for Chelsea to spend so much money and claim they are making more in revenue in such a short period of time.
"I guess with good lawyers you can escape anything. But it definitely should be looked at. It is not even the clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United with big histories and the biggest fanbases in the world spending money like this, so how can Chelsea and Manchester City? Even if they are found not guilty, something is definitely going on."
Due to amortisation, Chelsea have been able to spread out transfer fees payments across the length of contracts in order to meet FFP regulations. For example, had Mykhailo Mudryk, who penned an eight-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues, signed a shorter deal instead then the annual payment (around £88million) calculation would be much higher, making it far harder to comply with FFP regulations.
According to The Times, officials at UEFA are planning to set a five-year limit on the length of time over which a player's transfer fee can be spread out. It's said that a new policy will be brought in before the summer after a number of clubs raised concerns with the European governing body over Chelsea's business.
