According to the Times, Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave Manchester United, given the right offer comes around. Considering United’s failure to reach the Champions League next season, it is not entirely a surprise. One of the greatest players of all time could be up for sale and it would be criminal for the Blues to not give it their best shot to try and secure him.
The Portugal international has had a stellar first season judging by his stats. Ending the season as Man United’s top goal scorer, it’s safe to say he’s still got it. If any club understands how to get the best out of a 37-year-old, It’s Chelsea. Their success with Thiago Silva is testament to that. Ronaldo scored more goals last season (24) than any single Chelsea player, nine more than the Blues' highest goal scorer, Romelu Lukaku (15).
Despite such impressive stats, there is still the worry that Ronaldo would not be Chelsea’s saving grace for next season. The Blues are without a recognised striker going into the next season. It is down to Thomas Tuchel to make the call.
