The future of Mason Mount at Chelsea is more uncertain as each week passes, with the midfielder's contract expiring next summer. That impacts the Blues' transfer business in the next few months as reports claim that the 24-year-old may be available in the market to avoid the club losing him on a free.
That would see a remarkable change from the past few years, where Mount has often been an ever-present force in the first-team. A mix of injuries and poor form has seen the England international struggle this season, but manager Graham Potter revealed he is in conversation with the academy star over a stay.
"I've spoken to him several times about his situation, football, and life generally," the head coach told the media last week. "My feelings for Mason are clear. He's a fantastic person firstly, but sometimes these things happen. They're complicated, and it's best I speak little about it, let them get on with it in deciding what is right for both parties."

However, with talks locked in a stalemate at this stage, it remains unclear as to what is next for Mount, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United linked with a move. The landscape of such talks are shifting too as Todd Boehly has decided to step away from talks.
That's according to the Telegraph, which reports that the co-owner is no longer directly involved, handing responsibility down to co-sporting director Paul Winstanley. As a result, discussions are said to have reset and are at a standstill, with any extension seeming unlikely to be resolved quickly.
It remains to be seen what will happen for Mount and Chelsea over the next few months, but other clubs may be there to pounce if an exit seems close.
