Todd Boehly hopeful Chelsea can appoint recruitment guru who helped guide Phil Foden at Man City

Chelsea have moved quickly to give expected technical director Christopher Vivell extra support in his new role, if reports are to be believed.

Todd Boehly, who has been a major part of the summer overhaul throughout the club from ownership down- including player transfers and directors leaving as well - appears keen to implement a sustainable and modern footballing structure at the club and football.london understands former RB Leipzig director Vivell is likely to be the first in place.

Alongside him could yet be a group of new appointments in advisory roles or permanent technical and sporting director positions. This is part of a bid to streamline the planning at the club and comes just months after Bruce Buck, Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia departed.

The latest move, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, is to appoint former Manchester City head of academy recruitment Joe Shields. Most recently Shields was head of senior recruitment at Southampton but could be snapped up by the new Chelsea co-owners in a continuation of the drive for change.

Shields has reportedly been approached by the club to become to the new director of recruitment at Stamford Bridge, which corresponds closely to the head of international scouting position vacated by Scott McLachlan earlier this summer.

Shields has impressed in each of his two roles so far. According to the Athletic though, no contact has been made between the clubs and even if something did happen, they would enforce a six-month notice period. Shields only moved to St Mary's in July.

His notable work is impressive and includes being in place at Manchester City to oversee the development of Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden, whilst at Saints he signed Romeo Lavia from City and had a £50m bid from Chelsea turned down after less than five league matches for the 18-year-old.

Shields would help complement the work of Vivell if he does indeed arrive from Germany after he left the RB Leipzig following a statement released last week which said: "Christopher Vivell was dismissed from his position as technical director yesterday [Thursday] with immediate effect, due to differences of opinion."
