New Chelsea owners, the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital consortium, will be facing questions over their investment when it comes to the transfer market and the overall running of the club. Compared to the last regime, Boehly has already outlined the desire to invest in youth talent over the need for players at or beyond their peak.
However, the need to bolster the current squad with players remains clear as the transition from one ownership and recruitment structure transitions. "We have talked about having a multi-club model," Boehly said during a SALT conference. "I would love to continue to build out the footprint.
"There are different countries where there are advantages to having a club. Red Bull do a really good job, they have got Leipzig and Salzburg, both of which are playing in the Champions League. They have figured out how to make that work. You have Man City, who have a very big network of clubs."

The idea is that Chelsea can continue to produce and scout top talent whilst also using them through the multi-club model to create more sustainability. However, the immediate challenge remains competing at the top of the table while all of this is put into place, with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal leading the way so far.
It suggests the need for further investment, despite breaking a Premier League transfer spend back in the summer with roughly £278million. But that investment was part of a rebuild that was needed after the loss of some key players on free transfers at the end of the season.
To catch Manchester City, they have to continue spending or produce players that increase in value, as their latest financial reports show that the champions are the first team to report a squad value of over £1.077billion. The Blues' last financial report showed their squad to be worth roughly £950million, meaning Boehly inherited a squad £100million off the mark, with that dwindling even more with exits.
It remains to be seen if they can continue to compete on that financial level, which is something that continues to be a point of contention in football.
