Todd Boehly can repeat Juan Mata transfer trick to start Chelsea rebuild with £34m double deal

Chelsea have been handed a major boost ahead of the upcoming transfer window as Thomas Tuchel plots a rebuild in west London. The Blues have been heavily linked with several players this summer, with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to leave Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks once their contracts expire.

Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have also been linked with an exit from Chelsea. Jorginho and N'Golo Kante, who each see their current deals expire next summer, also face a relatively uncertain future.

So, with an exodus of talent on the cards, the Blues boss has made it known that he intends to oversee a busy upcoming transfer window. Speaking to football.london, Tuchel said: "We are rebuilding, not improving the squad. We are rebuilding. This is always challenging, but we are up for the challenge.

"I don't know where we are from day one. What I can promise is that I will be here – if I can promise that – I will be here with full energy and positive energy no matter what. We will still work for Chelsea, and I refuse to think of negative scenarios. We will be competitive, on which level we will see."

Eager to hit the ground running and impress, the consortium spearheaded by Todd Boehly, who agreed a £4.25billion deal to buy the west London club last week, are expected to 'push for A-list signings' to mark a new era at Stamford Bridge, according to the MailOnline. With the new ownership group keen to bolster the Blues' armoury, the Telegraph indicate that, after player sales are taken into account, Tuchel is set to have £200million at his disposal to strengthen his side.

And, spontaneously enough, Chelsea's rebuild mission has coincided with a potentially lucrative fire-sale in La Liga. Gennaro Gattuso, who is reportedly set to be appointed Valencia boss this summer, has already outlined his intentions ahead of the upcoming transfer window — and several big stars are set for exits, according to AS.

The report claims that Goncalo Guedes and Jose Gaya are among those at the club set to make way, in a bid to ensure the Spanish side operate within Financial Fair Play guidelines. The pair, who are valued at a combined £34million by CIES Football Observatory, have been previously linked with moves to Chelsea and see their deals in Spain expire in 2024 and 2023, respectively.

Should either of the two leave Valencia for a move to the Premier League, they'll be following in the footsteps of Bryan Gil, who made the leap last summer. With Tuchel keen to bolster his strike force and find strong competition for Ben Chilwell, Guedes and Gaya could be the perfect options.

Chelsea have enjoyed great success when buying from Valencia in the past; Juan Mata joined from Los Che in August 2011 for £23.5million and led the Blues to Champions League glory. The Spaniard's time in west London has already gone down in folklore among Blues fans, so maybe Guedes and Gaya could follow suit.
