The summer transfer window was a frantic one for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel. The German had much more say than in previous windows when it came to transfer-related activity – and he was heavily backed.
The Blues ended up spending north of £250million on a host of new players. Despite this, Tuchel was sacked less than a week after the window slammed shut.
Todd Boehly decided to part company with Tuchel on Wednesday morning in a face-to-face meeting. football.london understands the German coach was no longer seen as the man to lead the ownership group's long-term vision of the club.

With Tuchel now gone, Chelsea could revisit a situation that arose in the summer transfer window - the small matter or Cristiano Ronaldo. Chelsea were offered the 37-year-old forward by his agent Jorge Mendes, who met with Boehly earlier in the summer. It's no secret that Ronaldo wanted/wants to leave Manchester United, who failed to qualify for the Champions League this season.
Boehly was keen on signing Ronaldo – and why wouldn't he be? Purely from a business perspective, it makes complete sense to sign perhaps the most famous football player on the planet. But Chelsea never made a move.
Tuchel's sign-off was needed for Chelsea to make a move and the German coach was unwilling to give the green light. There are obvious tactical ramifications if Ronaldo was to be signed, but Tuchel was also wary of disrupting the dressing room dynamic.
Now, though, with Tuchel gone, it could be one Chelsea revisit in the January transfer window. When New Year rolls around, the Portugal international will have just six months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford. United may be willing to sell for very cheap.
Alternatively, Chelsea could wait until the summer and get Ronaldo for absolutely nothing (bar wages, of course). It's a very interesting one and a piece of business that may now be considered with the changes at the club.
