Todd Blanche played key role in Trump’s retribution campaign, emails show

  • Blanche assigned senior Department of Justice officials to politically charged probes into special counsel Jack Smith , Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, January 6 rioters and the 2020 presidential election.
  • The documents, obtained by American Oversight and first reported by The New York Times , show Blanche's direct involvement, including scheduling weekly “weaponization” meetings and reprimanding officials.
  • Controversial figures were appointed to lead these investigations, such as Jared Wise, a January 6 rioter and Emil Bove, who previously defended Trump in criminal cases.
  • Blanche's actions, including signing off on a rule blocking tax investigations into Trump and his family, have drawn criticism from American Oversight ahead of his Senate confirmation hearings.
