Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rates for every Scots council amid 5,805 new cases

There have been another 5,805 Covid cases confirmed in Scotland within the last 24 hours.

Data has been published by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland (PHS) this afternoon as part of the national Covid-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, there are 911 patients with the disease being treated in hospital which is up 27 from yesterday's reported figure. There are currently 13 people being treated in ICUs.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has rose by 297. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 90,335 positive tests in the region and 1,312,019 million across Scotland.

Of the new cases reported, 111 were in East Ayrshire, 97 attributed to North Ayrshire and 93 in South Ayrshire.

As a result of the historical update in terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, the Shetland Islands has the highest rate in the country – at 2,146.9 as of Monday, February 14.

The Orkney Islands has the second-highest infection rate at 1,223.2 while Dundee City is third with 1,067.7.

In terms of Ayrshire's thee local authorities, East Ayrshire has the highest rate of 616.0; South Ayrshire's rate stands at 586.8 while North Ayrshire's is 582.5.

A total of 20 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 792.9.

A further 16 deaths mean 10,528 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 13,075 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, February 6 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 159,605 as of last night and 180,033 with Covid mentioned on the death certificate.

There are 72 patients with the disease being treated in Ayrshire hospitals, which is up two on yesterday, and fewer than five people in ICUs.

Nationally, a total of 4,428,684 people have received one dose of a Covid vaccine; 4,144,534 are double jabbed and 3,359,114 people have received a third dose/booster.
