Team GB were denied another early medal today when Alex Yee saw the men’s triathlon postponed.
The event has been thrown into controversy amid pollution issues in the River Seine and it was widely seen as too close to call, with Tokyo silver medallist Yee in the thick of the contenders.
British participants again have hopes of a medal in the pool as they defend their 4x100m relay swimming gold this evening, after Andy Murray and Dan Evans aim to reach the men’s doubles quarter-finals.
Simone Biles and her USA team-mates will target redemption in the women’s gymnastics while the women’s rugby sevens also wraps things up in Paris.
Best of today’s action
From 5pm: Andy Murray and Dan Evans in doubles action
A scarcely believable win in the first round saw Murray and Evans save five match points to beat Japanese duo Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori and delay the Scot’s retirement for another day.
Murray and Evans are likely to need to play significantly better if they are to reach the quarter-finals, with Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen next up. The doubles action begins at 11am, with Murray and Evans up fourth with an estimated start time of 5pm.
5.15pm: Women’s team gymnastics final
The Russian teams swept the board in the team artistic gymnastic events in Tokyo as Simone Biles and the USA had to settle for second place. This time around, they are big favourites ahead of Italy, China and Brazil while Team GB are in the final but not expected to match their bronze from three years ago.
8.59pm: men’s 4x200m freestyle relay
Team GB will be defending their gold medal in the pool this evening, and will fancy their chances. Tom Dean, James Guy, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott have since followed up their 2021 success by clinching the world title last year.

How to watch Day 4
TV channel: The BBC is broadcasting two live streams of the action for the duration of the Games. This will be on BBC One, BBC Two or a stream available by clicking the red button on Freeview or a smart TV.
There is reduced coverage compared with previous years, however, when BBC broadcasted everything from archery to wrestling live on its website or channels. Instead, Discovery+ is the rights holder for Paris 2024 and is showing every moment across Eurosport channels in the UK from 7am-10.30pm every day.
Live stream: Fans can also catch the BBC coverage live online for free via the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer. The Discovery+ app will be showing extensive coverage, which begins at a monthly fee of £3.99.
Highlights: The BBC will be showing a nightly highlights show called Today at the Games.
