The Mason County couple who’ve been advocating for Kentucky to legalize medical marijuana for a decade are celebrating. Michelle and Eric Crawford were in Frankfort last week and helped push Senate Bill 47 across the finish line. It was signed by Governor Beshear on Friday. Eric Crawford has been wheelchair-bound since an auto accident and said marijuana helps ease his symptoms better than opioids.
“Opioids make me feel better, but they don't make the pain go away. Or treat the pain or make my spasms go away. Cannabis either makes me tolerate the pain or makes the pain go away.”
Eric Crawford said he’s gotten his marijuana illegally and is glad, when the law takes effect in 2025, that he and other suffering Kentuckians won’t have to do that anymore.
“God works in mysterious ways. He got me out of the bed. And my wife dressed me every day and we made Frankfort and lots of other people helped. And the job's almost done.”
The Crawfords said now, they can rest – but they didn’t rule out trying to make the law, which makes medical marijuana legal for certain illnesses and conditions, more sweeping.
