Staunch American journalist, pedo hunter and living meme Chris Hansen has coldly responded to Robert Pattinson‘s casting in Primetime, revealing he had someone else in mind when it came to the theatrical retelling of his career.
If you’re chronically online, you would’ve definitely come across a Chris Hansen quote or his viral Dateline segment, To Catch A Predator.
To Catch A Predator, which ran from 2004 to 2007, followed Hansen as they conducted sting operations against adults attempting to meet minors they met online.
But before the predators were (most of the time) tackled to the ground by authorities, Hansen would confront and read back their sickening online chat logs to them, birthing the iconic quote/dark meme: “Why don’t you have a seat right over there?”
Chris Hansen responds to Primetime‘s Robert Pattinson’s casting
Ahead of the premiere of A24’s Primetime — starring Robert Pattinson as Hansen — the TV presenter revealed that he had another actor in mind.
“I didn’t get to choose my own guy,” he exclaimed on the Serialously podcast, hosted by Annie Elise.
“I always thought — I had discussions years ago, I had crafted a script — Denis Leary [would] play me, depending on the age of it all.”
Hansen went on to add that he appreciated Pattison, as he’s “a very popular actor”, but questioned “Hollywood’s motives” regarding the retelling of his story.
At the time of the podcast episode, Hansen jokingly said overall he hasn’t given the movie much thought as he’s been “so busy being the real Chris Hansen”. He also revealed he had no involvement in the filming or production of Primetime.
“I haven’t had much time to check out the dramatised version,” he shared.
“I’m going to see it soon, and once I do, we’ll talk about it,” he added, revealing he was going to a private screening of Primetime soon.
The Australian premiere dates for Primetime have yet to be confirmed. However, it’s expected to be released in the US on September 25.
