Family still clueless on what caused death of trainee pilot

HYDERABAD: A A day after trainee pilot Maheema Gajaraj was killed in an aircraft crash in Nalgonda district, the husband of the deceased pilot T Paranthaman said that the family is waiting for the answers as they are still clueless about what has caused her death, even as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) team began a probe into the crash.

Speaking to TOI, Paranthaman said that he doesn’t want to speculate the cause of death but want the answers. He said that Maheema’s mother, who lost her husband to Covid-19 recently, is devasted as she lost her only child.

“My wife had done cross-country on the same route before. We don’t know what happened. We have several questions. We want to know why has she been killed this way,” said the grieving husband.

Paranthaman said that his wife, who started her training in the end of October, had already completed the theory part of training and wished to complete her training by May. “She needs to have 185 flying hours to complete the training, of which Mahima had already completed 87 hours. She recently spoke to her senior instructor and expressed that she aims to complete her training by April/May,” he added.

Paranthaman, who also took pilot training, but did not complete the course, said that it is completely false that his wife is four months pregnant. “I have heard some people talking about my wife being pregnant. It is completely false. I know a thing or two about training and we would never risk flying if she was pregnant,” he said.
