TK Maxx worker shares why they never check stock rooms even if it 'annoys' customers

TK Maxx is often a favourite amongst fashion fans, as you never quite know what you'll get when heading into the store.

Be it a luxury brand at a bargain rate or a discontinued item that you'd struggle to find somewhere else, there's a lot of option. However, one thing that many TK Maxx stores might not be able to offer is size options on a product that you like, reports the Mirror.

That is because all of the stock that comes into the store goes straight to the shelves, according to one employee.

Talking to Fabulous, the TK Maxx worker explained: "The stock room doesn't exist. If it's not on the shelf, it's not there.

"We do get new stock every day. It's just a game of chance. We don't use the stock room to store stock as it normally goes straight out after it's delivered."

Instead, the employee recommends checking back next time you visit the store to see if more sizes have arrived for the item that you want.

While this can seem annoying it can also be frustrating for staff, as they may appear as if they are unwilling to check a stockroom even though there isn't a stockroom to check.

According to the TK Maxx website, decisions on items that are stocked are made by the buying team, who are described as "opportunistic and entrepreneurial". The buyers often look for opportunities where designers have overproduced, or other stores have overbought.

And if you're after other hacks, a single number two on labels might be a sign that you've found a brilliant bargain, according to former senior merchandiser Daniel Baker.

Appearing in a Channel 5 documentary; 'TK Maxx: How do they do it?', Daniel revealed: "On any label, you can see a number.

"The number that is really exciting to a customer is number two because that means it's genuine stock that was sold at a higher price somewhere else.

"It's excess stock or something like that."
