The Tennessee Titans got starting quarterback Will Levis back on the field today, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Los Angeles Chargers on the road at SoFi Stadium on Sunday. The Titans are now 2-7 after their 27-17 loss to the Chargers.
In his return, Levis looked better than anticipated. He didn’t throw a single interception, but he was sacked seven times which makes it hard to get down the field. As such, we saw a lot of the Titans’ defense today, and linebacker Jack Gibbens was involved throughout the game, earning him Player of the Game honors.
Gibbens’ 15 tackles (10 solo) led the defense and caused Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers to adjust their game plan. Once they managed to somewhat contain Gibbens, that’s when they really started moving down the field. No one else was as impactful on the field as Gibbens today.
The Titans’ defense is the top defense in the NFL right now, although that may look different after today. When Ernest Jones IV was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, the defense took a hit. Until Jack Gibbens stepped up to the plate and showed us what he can really do.
Before today, Gibbens had 29 tackles (12 solo), a half a sack and one stuff for four yards. The bulk of those stats were recorded last week against the Patriots. Now, Gibbens didn’t just earn Player of the Game honors, he’s also cemented his spot in the starting lineup of one of the top defenses in the NFL.
