Titans’ updated dead money for 2023 after Bud Dupree release

The Tennessee Titans incurred yet more dead money on Wednesday when the team officially parted ways with outside linebacker Bud Dupree, a move the team confirmed on Thursday morning.

The move to cut Dupree saves $9.35 million, but it also leaves the Titans with $10.85 million in dead cap. Had the Titans designated Dupree a post-June 1 cut, they would’ve saved more and had less dead money.

However, the Titans would’ve had to wait for that money until June, well after free agency is over. Clearly that wasn’t something the team was willing to do. With the pre-June 1 cut, Tennessee can use its saving right away.

In terms of total dead money set to be on the books for the Titans in 2023, the team has a whopping $36.8 million, which ranks fifth in the NFL, per Over the Cap. Of course, this number can grow if Tennessee cuts more players.

As far as actual cap space is concerned, the Titans have $15.4 million, also per Over the Cap, but that figure does not include the contracts of Andre Dillard and Daniel Brunskill, so it’s lower than that.

We are still awaiting the specifics of Dillard’s three-year, $29 million deal, and we haven’t seen any figures for Brunskill’s two-year deal. Until we get those, nailing down a totally accurate cap space figure is difficult.

So, who else helps make up that massive dead money number outside of Dupree? Here’s the full list of players.
