The Tennessee Titans’ offense was nothing short of abysmal during the 2022 season. Outside of Derrick Henry and occasional flashes from Treylon Burks and Chigoziem Okonkwo, Tennessee’s offense was mostly lifeless in every possible way.
The team especially struggled after halftime, averaging fewer than six points per second half, en route to becoming one of the most underwhelming offenses that Titans fans have ever been forced to sit through.
And that truly is saying something.
One area where the Titans specifically struggled was when it came to moving the chains in obvious passing situations.
Last season, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill ranked in the bottom eight when it came to converting third-down attempts of over five yards, only succeeding on approximately 22 percent of those scenarios.
He was tied with Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills, and none other than former Titans and Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Marcus Mariota, who now resides in Philadelphia.

Putting the blame squarely on Tannehill’s shoulders for this wouldn’t be fair, as Todd Downing routinely ran Derrick Henry into a wall on early downs, setting up less than ideal third-down situations for a Titans offense that simply wasn’t good enough to overcome them.
there is no reason a team that sits where the Titans sit on this graphic should be running the ball at the #2 highest rate in the NFL

Now that Downing is out as the Titans’ offensive coordinator and Tim Kelly is in, let’s hope these types of issues become a thing of the past.
