Titans no match for A.J. Brown, Eagles in Week 13: Everything we know

The Tennessee Titans went into Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday and threw up an absolute stinker against the Philadelphia Eagles, losing 35-10.

Tennessee was no match for Philadelphia in any phase of the game, whether it was offense, defense, or special teams. The 35 points the Eagles scored were the most the Titans’ defense has allowed since Week 3 (22).

On offense, it was much of the same for the Titans, who couldn’t run the ball or pass protect for quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was under pressure and taking big hits all game long.

The only thing that could’ve made a loss to the Eagles worse was A.J. Brown having a big day, and he did exactly that with with eight catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, if you can stomach it, let’s sort through the details of the Titans’ awful Week 13 loss to the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Final score: Eagles 35, Titans 10

A.J. Brown caught a 29-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, staking the Eagles to a 28-10 lead. With the way Tennessee’s offense was playing, there was never a shot for a comeback.

-Ryan Tannehill was able to make some plays down the field when he had time, but Tennessee’s offensive line made sure that wasn’t a common occurrence. Tannehill was under pressure all game long and took some big hits, one of which appeared to injure his other ankle. In all, the Eagles pummeled Tannehill with six sacks, nine QB hits, and countless pressures.

-While Tannehill might be dealing with a new ankle injury now, he did show his previously injured ankle is feeling better, as Tannehill had a season-high (and team-high) 34 rushing yards. That’s an element Tennessee’s offense hasn’t had enough of this season.

-Derrick Henry was stifled once again, finishing with just 30 yards and a dreadful 2.7 yards per carry. Ben Jones’ return didn’t help and it’s officially time to be worried about Tennessee’s group upfront with run-blocking, also.

-Treylon Burks made a fantastic touchdown grab in the first quarter but was removed from the game after taking an illegal hit to the head that may have resulted in a concussion. Tennessee’s passing game just wasn’t the same after that, as receivers just couldn’t get open when Tannehill did have time to throw.

-Chig Okonkwo busted off another big play, this one going for 40 yards. He finished with season-highs in receptions (four) and yards (68).

-The biggest concern for Tennessee’s defense coming into this game was the Eagles’ rushing attack with Miles Sanders and Jalen Hurts. However, the Eagles actually leaned on the pass mostly in this game, with Hurts picking apart the Titans’ secondary and ripping off big chunks of yardage down the field all game long. The Titans couldn’t get any pressure on Hurts, who was sacked twice and hit three times. He had all day to throw, and he made the Titans pay for it.

-A.J. Brown had two long touchdown grabs, one for 29 and one for 40. The 40-yard grab saw him run right through Kristian Fulton, who was injured on the play. Fulton was flagged for illegal contact, but that was questionable at best and really could’ve gone either way. On Brown’s second score, Tre Avery had good coverage but Brown just made a better play.

-Even Tennessee’s special teams was allowing big returns all day. As we said, the Titans were outclassed in all three phases.

-This game might’ve actually been worse if the Eagles didn’t commit a ton of penalties on offense. The Titans had some very questionable calls against them, like the flag on Fulton and a pass interference on Avery that set the Eagles up at the six-yard line for an eventual touchdown. Regardless, the penalties weren’t the reason the Titans lost this game.

Injuries

Syndication: The Tennessean

-WR Treylon Burks (concussion): Burks suffered the injury in the first quarter when he was sandwiched in between two defenders during an amazing touchdown catch. He walked off under his own power but did not return.

-Kristian Fulton (groin): Talk about adding insult to injury, Fulton was knocked over by A.J. Brown on a long touchdown catch in the second quarter.

-LB David Long (hamstring): Long suffered the injury in the second quarter and was listed as questionable. He was ultimately ruled out.

What's next?

Syndication: The Tennessean

The Titans are now 1-4 against teams with a winning record, and they’ve been blown out in two of those games (Eagles, Bills). It’s hard to take the Titans seriously as anymore than a playoff team with how they’ve looked against some of the league’s best.

At 7-5, the Titans will now look ahead to a Week 14 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars as they continue to try and wrap up the AFC South and improve their playoff position.
