Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has been one of the more respected and successful head coaches throughout the majority of his five-year tenure in Nashville.
On top of having an overall coaching record of 48-34 (.585), Vrabel has led the team to three playoff berths, two division championships, one No. 1 Seed, and one AFC Championship appearance.
Unfortunately, an injury-riddled year paired with a questionable offseason subsequently led to a disastrous ending to what started as a promising 2022 campaign.
You would think someone like Vrabel would be given the benefit of the doubt, but that’s clearly not the case in the head-coach power rankings of Dalton Miller of Pro Football Network.
Miller had the former Ohio State legend ranked as the 16th-best head coach in the NFL, stating the following:
After seemingly overachieving with Arthur Smith as his offensive coordinator, things have turned south for Vrabel and the Titans. His team has struggled with health in recent seasons, but his coaching style is one that we’ve really only seen work once.
Like his old coach, Belichick, Vrabel is trying to zig while everyone else zags. But he and the decision-makers on the personnel side have made a few errors recently in valuing the wrong things.
Ironically, he indicates that a large reason for his ranking is because Vrabel “overachieved” when Arthur Smith was on his staff. However, the guy he has ranked No. 2 (Bill Belichick) has a below .500 coaching record whenever he doesn’t have the greatest quarterback in NFL history running his offense.
But I digress…
Nevertheless, it was just two seasons ago that the Titans’ head coach was winning Coach of the Year in emphatic fashion after he found a way to overcome a ton of adversity en route to securing home-field advantage throughout the 2021 playoffs.
It’s clear that Vrabel’s reputation has lost some of its shine since then, but luckily for him, he will have the chance to quiet the naysayers in just a few more months.
