NFL officials did not have a good week around the NFL in Week 5 thanks to some questionable calls, one of which occurred in the Tennessee Titans’ victory over the Washington Commanders.
Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons was called for a questionable roughing the passer penalty during the game, one of many lackluster roughing the passer calls made this season.
As a whole, we’ve seen many games impacted by bad officiating in 2022, and the Titans have been no stranger to that, also.
So, when the NFL e-mailed general managers and coaches its weekly video on officiating, Vrabel did something rare: he decided to reply all to the e-mail, sending his response to the league and everyone else in the group.
Here’s what Vrabel’s e-mail said, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
I appreciate the time and energy that goes into these videos, but I suggest we devote every minute of our officiating departments’ time ensuring our officiating crews are as well trained in the clarifications we worked to create in the off season and that each crew is as consistent as possible. Thank you.
Hard to argue with Vrabel, as officials have often struggled with consistency, and clarification of calls has been an issue as well.
We aren’t holding our breath for anything to get better, but Vrabel’s e-mail does display the level of frustration teams have with the situation.
