The Tennessee Titans are reportedly set to make another addition to the offensive staff of head coach Brian Callahan.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Titans are hiring former Las Vegas Raiders quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree to the same role. Hardegree also served as the interim offensive coordinator after former Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels was fired.
From Week 9 on, the Raiders averaged 23 points per contest with Hardegree calling the plays.
However, context is needed there, as the Raiders dropped a whopping 63 points in one of those games. If you take that contest out, Las Vegas only averaged 17.9 points per contest in the other eight games.
That said, the Raiders did have a rookie quarterback at the helm in fifth-round pick Aidan O’Connell, who Hardegree obviously had a hand in developing.
O’Connell proved to be serviceable in his 11 games (10 starts), with the rookie tallying 2,218 passing yards, 12 touchdowns to seven picks and a completion percentage of 66.2.
The Raiders were 5-5 in O’Connell’s starts and he was turnover-free in six of the nine games he played with Hardegree as the interim offensive coordinator.
Prior to being hired by the Raiders in 2022, Hardegree served as an offensive assistant with the New England Patriots and New York Jets, and before that he was the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach.
Hardegree has a connection with Callahan, who was on the Denver Broncos’ staff with him. Hardegree was an offensive quality control coach for the Broncos in 2014 when Callahan was an offensive assistant.
In addition to the Callahan connection, Hardegree went to college at Tennessee, where he was a quarterback.
