The Tennessee Titans are about to take part in free agency this week, and we should finally get the answer as to whether or not the team is retooling with the intent to fully compete next year, or if the team is rebuilding and using 2023 as a transition year.
Over the course of the offseason we’ve released previews for each of the Titans’ positions, breaking down who’s under contract, who’s a pending free agent, and what the team might do in free agency, the draft, etc.

Free agency schedule
Monday, March 13 at noon ET to Wednesday, March 15 at 3:59 p.m. ET: Legal tampering period
Teams can begin negotiating contracts with pending free agents, but signings will start rolling in almost immediately. The 2022 league year ends at 3:59 p.m. ET on the 15th.
Wednesday, March 15 at 4 p.m. ET: Start of new league year
Players set to hit free agency officially become available, and said players can begin signing on the dotted line.
Friday, April 21: Last day of restricted free agent period
Teams have until this date to make offers to restricted free agents. Titans who fall under this umbrella include Teair Tart, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Aaron Brewer.
Sunday, April 26: Last day to match restricted FA offer sheets
If a team’s restricted free agent signs an offer sheet from another team, his previous squad has until this date to match it or let him go.
Free agency terms
Here’s a look at the definitions of what restricted, unrestricted and exclusive rights free agents are, per NFL.com:
Unrestricted free agent (UFA): Any player with four or more accrued seasons and an expired contract; free to negotiate and sign with any team.
Restricted free agent (RFA): A player with three accrued seasons and an expired contract. RFAs are free to negotiate and sign with any team, but their original team can offer them one of various qualifying offers (“tenders”) that come with the right of first refusal and/or draft-pick compensation. If the tender is withdrawn by a team, the RFA becomes an unrestricted free agent. In 2022, teams must submit these tenders before 4 p.m. ET on March 16. These amounts change annually; the following numbers are for the 2022 season. Players can choose either (a) or (b) regardless of which is greater in the applicable tenders below.
Exclusive rights free agent (ERFA): Any player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract at the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams.
