There have been two schools of thought when it comes to what to do with Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, who is currently dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 15 that forced him to miss Week 16.
One side believes the Titans should sit Levis for the final two games of the season no matter what in order to avoid the risk of further — and potentially serious — injury while playing behind this putrid offensive line.
The other side believes Levis should play if he’s healthy so he can get more game reps, which are no doubt valuable for a rookie signal-caller.
When asked about the situation on Tuesday, head coach Mike Vrabel made it clear he subscribes to the idea that Levis should play if healthy.
“I think those are invaluable reps,” Vrabel said, per Jim Wyatt. “I would anticipate a great road environment (in Houston), playing on the road in a loud environment and being able to handle the operation and work the offense, I think that’s something that is always critical. I want everyone that could possibly play to play.”
As far as Levis’ ankle is concerned, Vrabel noted that the rookie is feeling better and will try to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday.
“I think he’ll try and practice tomorrow, probably in a limited basis,” Vrabel said. “But I think that he’s better, he’s improved. He’s been working hard to get back like everybody else.”
I’d normally be totally on board with Levis getting end-of-season reps, even with nothing to play for. But the fact that the offensive line can’t adequately protect him makes it a tougher decision than it otherwise would be.
Not to mention, Levis gives the Titans the best chance to win and this team is obviously better off losing the last two games to secure the highest draft pick possible.
As boring as it would be not to have Levis on the field for the final two games, I can live with him not seeing another snap in 2023.
