Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich left the door open for Calvin Throckmorton on Wednesday. But that door, not long after, was promptly closed.
As first noted by ESPN’s Field Yates, the Tennessee Titans have claimed the veteran guard off waivers from the Panthers. Reich said the following of Throckmorton, who was released by the team on Tuesday:
“Throck did a good job as a veteran comin’ in here. Very dependable, very smart player. Chandler [Zavala] had been our starter and he got injured and we’re developin’ young guys the whole time. Hey, you never know how this league works out, Throck could be back here sooner rather than later. You never know how things go. But love the contribution that he made and the person he is.”
Throckmorton, who was signed to the active roster prior to the regular-season opener, started seven games for Carolina—with four coming at right guard and the final three at left guard.
Reich also told reporters that rookie Chandler Zavala will now fill the vacancy at left guard starting this Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
