Tip Toe actor speaks out against BBC cuts with up to 2,000 jobs at risk

  • The BBC announced a major downsizing plan this week, aiming to save £160m by the end of the financial year.
  • The plan is expected to result in 1,800 to 2,000 job losses across the business, including 550 across BBC ’s News, TV and radio divisions.
  • Specific programming cuts include six BBC Radio 4 shows, such as The World Tonight , Midnight News , and Money Box Live .
  • Tip Toe actor David Morrissey has responded to the cuts, posting on X: “We should all be very concerned and worried about what’s happening at the BBC. It’s something to be protected and proud of. Of course it’s made mistakes and they need addressing, but hammering it into the ground is not the answer!”
  • The cuts come amid financial pressures on the public broadcaster due to a sharp decline in licence fee income.
