A Lanarkshire schoolgirl will soon have to get a bigger room to house all of the dancing trophies she has amassed.
At the tender age of just seven, little Leah Highley has scooped an incredible 201 trophies, 21 medals and 34 winners’ sashes for her freestyle disco dancing prowess.
The Summerlee youngster - who only took up dancing only four years ago - has also strutted her stuff at the famous Tower Ballroom in Blackpool and has even appeared in a music video.
Leah, who is in P3 at St Bartholomew’s Primary, is passionate about dancing and has been a dedicated member of Airdrie’s Dance City studio, since she was three.
Proud mum Steffany Fisher told Lanarkshire Live: “Leah started dancing when she was three, began competing when she was four and now goes to dance classes five days a week.
“Her ambition is to be a dance teacher and to open her own dance school, but also wants to be a primary school teacher during the day.
She went on to say: “The biggest competition she has entered was at the Barrowlands, but the farthest afield she has danced is at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.”
And even though she has never watched Strictly, the seven-year-old sensation was excited to step out at the iconic Blackpool venue.
Steffany explained: “When I told her that she was going to dance there she was so excited to be performing in the same ballroom as the famous dancers.”
Light-footed Leah has also appeared as a backing dancer in Newcastle singer Channy Thompson’s recent music video.
Steffany explained: “ She contacted Leah on her Instagram page and invited her to be one of her dance ambassadors and appear as a backing dancer in her new music video for her song, Do It For The Love.
“Leah was in her element and said it was the best thing ever.”
As well as her dance teacher Rebecca Deas, Leahr is inspired by her mum Steffany, who herself was a dancer.
Steffany said: “I used to go to Rebecca’s dance school. It’s just brilliant and they focus on every kid.
“It’s Leah’s life and that’s where her friends are. All of them are just really close.
“They are like a big family and all get on brilliantly and at the competitions the kids all cheer each other on.”
