Timothée Chalamet becomes the first man to grace the cover of British Vogue solo

Actor Timothée Chalamet has become the first man to land a solo British Vogue cover in the magazine’s 106-year history.

The Hollywood star is best known for his Oscar-nominated role in Call Me By Your Name, Greta Gerwig’s Ladybird opposite Saoirse Ronan as well as sci-fi epic Dune.

And now the 26-year-old appears on the cover of Vogue’s upcoming October issue, in a striking black-and-white shot lensed by US photographer Steven Meisel.

Remarking on the feat, he remained humble and told the magazine: “The nature of the world now, you know... It felt right to not make it too statement-y.”

While Chalamet is currently promoting his new film Bones & All, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, he also spoke to the publication about his upcoming project Wonka, which serves as an origin story for the Roald Dahl character.

Speaking of the project, which sees him in several musical numbers, he teased that the movie is “joyous” and has helped him reflect on his own life.

He began: “This movie is so sincere, it’s so joyous.

“I hate to say it, but the dream as an artist is to throw whatever the f**k you want at the wall, you know?

“And I guess what I’m realising is that one’s personal life, one’s adult life, can be quite boring and the artist’s life can still be extraordinary.”

While British Vogue has previously featured male celebrities such as Brooklyn Beckham, Riz Ahmed and Marcus Rashford on its cover, Chalamet is the first man to do so on his own.

In 2020, Harry Styles became the first man to cover American Vogue solo in a shoot that saw him don a billowing ruffled dress and Gucci jacket that became a pop culture moment for the archives.
