SAN JOSE, Calif. – Timo Meier scored once in the second period and twice in the third for his third career hat-trick as he helped lead the San Jose Sharks to a 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday.
Meier scored his second goal of the game at the 3:56 mark of the third period, then finished off the hat trick as he took a pass from Tomas Hertl and beat Ducks rookie goalie Lukas Dostal with a backhand at the 15:55 mark to give the Sharks a 4-1 lead.
Meier, who was named to his first NHL All-Star Game in January, now has 30 goals on the year, matching the career-high he set in 2018-19.
James Reimer made 27 saves, Alexander Barabanov had two assists and Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored his third goal of the season as the Sharks won for the third time in four games. Reimer’s been in net for all three wins in seven days, the first time he’s had a three-game win streak this season.
With the win, the Sharks (29-28-8) moved one point past the Ducks (27-29-11) for sixth place in the Pacific Division. The Sharks’ next game is Wednesday in Arizona against the Coyotes.
Barabanov’s second assist came on a Sharks power play at the 3:56 mark of the third period, as he had the primary helper on Meier’s 29th goal of the season.
Reimer made a handful of clutch saves in the first 10 minutes, then shut the door in the third period to preserve the win, his third straight in the past seven days. Gerry Mayhew scored Anaheim’s only goal at the 1:05 mark of the third period to cut the Sharks’ lead to 2-1.
